addict or not golf is booming There are an estimated 5000 golfers in Simcoe County and that number continues to grow every year In the summer that number doubles as tourists from all over North America descend on the Huronia tourist region There is no shortage of golf in the Barrie area Barrie there are nine courses ranging from the par three Green Acres course on Highway 90 near Angus to the championship 18hole course at the Barrie Country Club One of the most popular courses in the county is Shanty Bay layout located on Golf Course Road in Oro about six miles east of Barrie Shanty Bay has three distinct ninehole courses offering the golfer variety of challenges from the lengthy wideopen Frontier Nine to the hilly Klondike Nine The greens on the Klondike are small and because Valley is moun tain goats paradise Almost every hole involves sharp change in elevation from tee to green With trees and heavy bush lining most of the fairways the averagelength player with good accuracy should score well on the par 71 5125yard course Green fees at Horseshoe Valley are $7 on weekdays and $9 on weekends and holidays The fees drop by $2 after pm and by another dollar after pm
