for the NDP Smith said in an interview the election was predicated on the notion that our party would dis appear It didnt and the fact that we got the same number of seats as at dissolution was victory The people decided to deny Premier William Davis the majority he sought And now possibly as the official opposi tion we will do our best to make it the new minority gov ernment the best possible gov ernment He said the results indicate that Ontario voters prefer the compromises consultations and responsiveness that make up minority government Smith said he will con centrate on solving the serious problems of the economy since LK HOS BACK the people have indicated they understand the troubles On tario faces WANTS TO FIND WORK Ontario must take measures to get the economy back on course and the province has solemn duty to find work for the hundreds of thousands of young people coming on the labor market in the next few years Smith said he was not sur prised by the election results Despite an almostdisastrous start to his campaign he found voters turning to the Liberals in large numbers in the week to 10 days before the election No things that he said dis appomted him were th partys poor showing in Metropolitan Toronto where only Margaret Campbell was elected for the party in St George and the de feat of John Ferris in London South Ferris lost to Con
