Lang lt v1 anus Wtuflvovi cx 10 the examiner Tunay Juno 1977 Sports corner Better use for money By RANDY MCDONALD Examiner Sports Editor It keeps coming back like recurring bad dream just how desperately this city needs another artificial ice surface Few will deny that fact The hockey people say there is so does figure skating group Money continues to be huge stumbling block before the task forces exploring the possibilities of third ice surface for Barrie Another ice surface was listed high on the list of priorities coming out of the Community Recreation Conference last year That was meeting of minds It attracted those carrying the most clout in the area of supplying recreation to the city The point of the conference was to come up withthis priority list to help meet the future recreation needs of the community While there we learned of the increasing need for organizations to look within themselves for funding instead of relying on municipal coffers That conference tied up lot of people It took up lot of time still is with the minitask forces It was there that the need for third ice surface was put down in black and white as being an immediate need not tennis courts City Council has indicated certain willingness to pay out sizeable chunk from its tightly controlled recreation budget on two tennis courts in Allandales Greenfield Park An expenditure of $25500 for two lighted courts was listed as low priority issue on this years budget but was left out of the final budget Mayor Ross Archer told an Examiner reporter last week that it would probably go in as high priority next year Lets get our priorities straight definite need for the city has already been determined lt should have preference over that dedicated to serving the needs of smaller group Now lm not suggesting that we neglect any group or pick one out for particular consideration But the recreation dollar isnt getting any easier to get and every cent should be put to where it
