the broadcast all three leaders declined to pick win ner As the leaders were question ed in turn by Ab Douglas of the CBC and Fraser Kelly of CF TV on variety of issues the opposition leaders generally sided against Davis although Smith found himself in the minority on one or two occa sions Neither Davis nor Smith par ticipated in one discussion in which Lewis told Kelly the NDI has no intention of nationalizing the provinces natural resource industries but would exercise control over them in other ways And the leaders while ex pressing their views on national unity abided by their agree ment at the outset of the six week campaign that it was not an election issue In reply to an interviewers question Lewis said he had always been less impressed than some of his NDi col leagues separation was Levesques primary goal and the NDP like the other two par ties was determined to keep Confederation together In reply to another question Davis said the premier of Hi tario has key role in keeping the country together and he has no political ambitions beyond filling that role Smith stressed that anglophonis in Ontario should not be tempted to deny language rights to Franco Ontarians because of measures being taken in Quebec to restrict the language rights of the Englishsrwaking minority Any such move would merely provide ammunition for the separatists The Liberal leader said hi
