pealing to the Rent Review Board More than 200 members of the Home Owners Association ofSandy Cove Acres retire ment development on the 11th concession of Innisfil Sunday voted to fight $2830 monthly maintenance charge This is an increase of 72 per cent over the $1660 they paid last year The charge is added to monthly land rental According to the Rent Review Act costs may only in crease by maximum of eight per cent each year Right now the 698 home owners in Sandy Cove Acres pay varying rental fees When the development first opened home owners agreed rent would not be increased more than three per cent year on the north side and tw0 per cent on the south side Tootal cost to operate Sandy Cove Acres last year was $359208 This included office staff salaries supervisory staff salaries administration and bookkeeping rental office costs advertising travelling expenses for staff legal and audit fees the management charge and maintenance Management charges each home owner $2830 month to cover operating costs Sandy Cove Acres is owned by Max and Lou Rice and Dave Robinson and The Royal Bank The Royal Bank has control ing interest in the development The south side of Sandy Cove Acres which covers 170 acres was built in 1971 The north side covering 90 acres was built in 1974 Home owners pay manage ment $50000 year to run the development but Wyles says home owners feel they are not consulted by the owners on any decision Reg Service president of the association and chairman of Sundays meeting said he met with Rice and representative from The Royal Bank to discuss possibility of lowering the maintenance charge But nothe ing came of the meeting he said Also on the home owners board are tan Mackinnon co chairman and Ruth Service secretary At the meeting Sunday at The Spoke Service said the board suggested the association not appeal the maintenance cost until next year because by that time the landlord and tenant act will have been enforced and modular homes is doing to us said one association member Another home owner said this issue is not only private one affecting residents of Sandy Cove Acres but public one He said it was an example of how management can take ad vantage of senior citizens everywhere Sonny Wyles an association member said management is not afraid residents will move out because then management can charge higher rental fees for new home owners Wyles will get applications to the rent review board from the south side and George Mann president of the social commit tee will get applications from the north More than 800 dancers
