industrial Commission says commissioner Bob Hollywood He says land will only be good for marketing as industrial land once planning and ser vicing is done and that takes time Thats something that is frequently overlooked he says Land is only land and far as industrial land goes it is only usable when serviced and put onto the marketplace Land is the commodity the in dustrial commission has dealt with as Chamber of Com merce committee since its creation in 1958 It deals basically with the purchase and sale of land for industrial pur poses Mr Hollywood said ad ditional land would be bonus to the commission which after what he terms successful year has just one set of in dustrial lots still vacant at Big Bay Point Road and Bayview Drive There are lot of things that have to be taken into account first however he said Suppose the farmer doesnt want to sell his land Where is the land wed be getting What are the engineering problems like What will the road servicing costs be Theyre all questions the in dustrial commission is going to have to look at before plunging ahead if annexation goes through hesaid PLANNING He says extensive planning of land use will be needed and says it could lead to the evolution of an official plan if the lands are obtained He said the horrendous part of the roblem of an nexation is time factor with lands being tied up during court actions industries are looking for an average of 20 acres at time he said with servicing provided and the assurance that they wont become landlocked With what the city has to of fer 48 industries have been at tractedw and half of those arrived since Reg Welham the first industrial commissioner took thejob The commission defines in dustries as companies involved in the manufacturing field When the commission began it had relatively little land to deal with As far as acreage was concerned we didnt have tremendous amount of land left said Mr Welham There was some land on Vic toria Street some on John Street and some running parallel to Highway 400 The commission has at tracted such industries as Hill Refri eration Bombardier Chrys er Outboard and Tam pax NOT TAX MONEY The land the commission buys and sells is financed by other sales not by taxpayers funds said Mr Hollywood It works on the basis of roll over money with the money we make from one sale going toward the purchase of another lot of land There is general fund the commission can draw on which is held by the city treasurer but that money is paid back on cea sale is made Checking The Brew Rick Perry takes sample of beer from
