was 200 get together at clubs meeting Life really does begin at 65 and more than 200 senior citizens proved it Tuesday afternoon at party at the Ar my Navy and Air Force Hall The GetTogether Club of Barrie welcomed guests from Thornton and Cookstown highlight of the afternoon was explaining of the United Senior Citizens Flag of Ontario The gold white and blue flag was designed by Les Cooke of Barrie Vera Gowan read planation The gold stands for our golden age as the saying goes life begins at 65 White means the ex for our secuirity for the re mainder of our lives in retire ment Blue means being true blue to the country The legend was also prepared by Les Cooke Mrs Gowan was commen tator for spoof fashion show put on by Lottie Bradley Kay Crowe Elsie Monteith Margaret Peacock Joe Cor mier Mrs Nellie Gaffney Cavell Long and Ken Kidman singsong was led by Harold Froud of Barrie ac companied by Wally Perkins The GetTogether Choir also sang some Irish songs Senior citizens talk about about growing oldin to days society Norah Bowles is 88 She has lived in Barrie 64 years and was widowed 27 years ago She lives alone and her main outings in volve her family and friends at the GetTogether Club She was one of many who came out to the party held Tuesday at the Army Navy and Air Force Hall Its wonderful being senior citizen she said Im looking forward to bright future Every day thank God for the sunshine and that Im able to get up she said It has taken her lifetime to learn the most important lesson of herlife Learn to be patient she said Shes seen harder life than she has now what with raising two children during the First World War while her husband served overseas This has allowed her to enjoy her later life she says She takes part in the letTogether bus trips euchre darts and she is member of the choir She is active in the Trinity Anglican Church Women and was presi dent of the Womens Institute when Barrie had one She was member of the Get Together club when it started five members in 1966 Today there are 180 members Vera Gowan 75 says You havent lived till youre 65 Were lot more comfortable than we were few years ago We can thank the government for
