council final ly decided Monday to hold an incamera meeting on tenders for the administrative building at the pollution control centre The discussion centred around two undisclosed com panics which bid to complete imprmenient work at the plant Aid Alex Arthur recom mended the session be held behind closed doors on the ad vice of ssie Rowe city solicitor Rowe said that com ments made at the meeting could affect one or both par ties and that defamation of character could result if an open discussion was held free wheeling discussion ensued Aid Fred Ruemper did not initially agree the matter should be held in private The alderman said he had trouble reconciling heading into an incamera meeting with the principal of conducting affairs out in the open if we have information which is Barrie county court Bill Ogiivie former Midland deputyreeve filed motion under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act in Barrie Wednes day asking that Mayor Lynns seat on council be declared va cant and he be barred from holding any municipal post for seven years Ogiivie alleges Mayor Lynn did not declare conflict of in terest and exclude himelf from vote that approved payment of $163 to his firm Huronia Of fice Services Ltd at council meeting March 13 Richard Clarke an Oriliia lawyer acting for Ogiivie said the allegation would be review ed August but would pobabiy not be resolved on that provin cial ministry of community and social services Through the program par Man caused fire in county forest Sundays forest fire near Hillsdale was caused by man and ministry of natural resources officials urge people to be especially careful with fire in local forests where there is now an extremely high fire risk John Fontaine ministry fire control coordinator said Monday the recent dry weather has turned county forests in totinderboxes and the hazard increases each day without rain Sundays fire destroyed about 900 cords of wood in 25 acre area of countyowned forest one km south of Orr Lake The 15 to 20yearold standing timber was worth about $8cord but if harvested and corded it would be sold at $60cord he said The ministry will now put to tender salvage operations to remove the remaining wood If not for quick reaction of firefighters fire might have devastated much larger portion of the county forest said Fontaine There are several hundreds of acres of forest in the area but firefighters managed to confine the blaze to an area of about 25 acres Fire started because of the activities of people who were there for recreational purposes said Fontaine The exact cause is not Examiner Vandalsim continues to plague the village of Port McNicoli Coldwater and Vic toria Harbour and municipal officials say local citizens must get involved if it to be controll Reeve Douglas Jackson of Victoria Harbour says too many people claim they are afraid of retaliation As long as people have that kind of at titude what can you expect Reeve Jackson said he en countered an example of this last weekend when man phon ed him to complain about bunch of kids roaming around his neighborhood When the reeve suggested they both go out together to take look the caller refused because he did not want to be identified and was afraid of retaliation Later that same night win dows at the Victoria Harbour public school and St Marys Catholic school were smashed says Reeve Jackson and it could have been the same kids Ontario Provincial Police in Midland say the damage to the windows totalled $1800 and three juveniles and two youths have been charged with mischief to public property As long burns owner watches Two barns and pole barn containing 6500 bales of hay were completely destroyed dur ing fire at Glenafton Farms RR No Alliston Sunday night Brian McCague owner of the prize cattle farm watched helplessly from neighboring farm Another neighbor called the Alliston fire department which arrived within minutes but the fire was just an inferno says Jim Hunter Alliston fire chief ld machinery and quantities of straw were also destroyed in the blaze The farm was one of two belonging to Brian McCague and well known throughout the area for its prize cattle About twenty valuable young offspr ing of prize cows remained unharmed as they grazed in field behind the blaze Hay was still burning as firemen left the scene Once it gets into pile like that it take day or so for hay to
