invest $5000 or $10000 in book that nobody wants and that the publishers have no intention of promoting Tuz is president of the Toron to Better Business Bureau The examples of vanity press deception he tells dont end with unsold books he knows of writers cheated by printers who simply photograph man uscripts complete with pencill ed corrections to produce cheap books that cant be sold Vanity presses are the soft underbelly of the publishing world They charge money to print books and any wouldAbe writer who approaches vanity press with hopes of fame and fortune should be aware of the pitfalls lot of hopeful writers sub mit manuscripts to vanity presses with dollar signs in their eyes says Tuz Then they get call from the publisher saying their work is unique and shows teinendous and the book gets printed But as Tuz points out if the publisher isnt willing to distribute ï¬nd promote the book the writer may be stuck with 1500 copies of book he cant possibly sell Anyone dealing with vanity publisher should clearly understand what commitment the publisher is making when he prints the book The writer should also make certain potential market exists for his book If youve written book of interest to everyone stay aware from vanity presses says Tuz If its good the regular publishers will take it it its not good printing it wont make it better If the book has localized interest say family history writer may perhaps go to vanity printer But its impor tant to get competitive bids Any writer dealing with vani ty printer should do so with his eyes open realizing full
