was misled by immigration officials who told them they had to find accommodation for family before they could sponsor one Now that turns out not to be true Its pretty costly mistake He said the congregation which has raised $15000 for the family is becoming dis illusioned with government red tape People think their efforts and money will be wasted if the Vietnamese family does not arrive soon But McLeod and his group havent lost hope Theyve already applied for second family An immigration official said that when handling refugee cases Canada has to know who is coming who their July i979 WASHINGTON AP The 775t0n Skylab space station will pass somewhere in the neighborhood of Victoria Winnipeg and St Johns Nfld in its final days in orbit next week small orbital maps distributed to reporters Friday indicate The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration released the maps showing approximately the parts of the globe to be passed over by Skylab orbits during July 10 11 and 12 When the craft does come down it will break up into hundreds of pieces up to 500 of them likely to survive the fire of reentry and fall to earth said Richard Smith NASA tech nical spokesman for Skylab Surviving pieces weighing up to total of 25 tons will be scattered along track 6400 kilometres long and 160 kilometres wide Although NASA still has no idea where Skylab will fall it is beginning to narrow down places where it will not fall Smith said the station completes about 16 orbits of the globe each day with each successive orbit on different track The orbital track begins repeating itself every 71 turns around earth or after about five days Each orbit takes the craft from 50 degrees north latitude Winnipegs latitude to 50 degrees south almost to the southern tip of South America Smith said that if an individual is not in close proximity to any of the tracks Skylab will follow on the day it lands theres ef fectively no chance of your being hit by Skylab debris Determining proximity with any degree of accuracy is impossible however The maps indicate that on each of the three days Skylab passes over parts of Canada on about five orbits On Wednesday Skylabs paths over Canada all moving from west to east are Southem Vancouver Island to southern Saskatchewan Southeastem British Columbia to Win nipeg then through northwestern Ontario to the St Lawrence River somewhere near the OntarioQuebec border Thunder Bay Ont to the Gulf of St Lawrence and southern Newfoundland Sault Ste Marie Ont to the Gulf of St Lawrence and northern Newfoundland The eastern coast of Nova Scotia to the St Johns area of Newfoundland The map indicates Skylab will pass over the southern part of Vancouver Island during an orbital path from the Pacific Ocean to the US mainland Computer projections showed that pm EDT Wednesday July 11 was the tentative midpoint hour of threeday time span during which Skyab is expected to end its existence The time however has changed daily and Smith said he expects the breakup to come earlier Wednesday possibly even late Tuesday He stressed that the chances of anyone being hit by falling debris are slim He said the odds against anyone being injured by piece of Skylab are about 150toone while the odds of specific person being hurt are six billiontoone He said the debris will not come down in clump At its heaviest concentration only three pieces will come down in 2605quare kilometre area NASA hopes change in the crafts position last week will help scientists direct it away from heavilypopulated areas It hopes to be able to delay or speed re entry by few orbits if it appears the craft would fall on heavilypopulated centre The best hope is that since Skylab spends threequarters of its time over water it will land in the ocean NASA will lose control of the craft about two to three hours before impact When it breaks up it will be 20 to 30 minutes before the first piece lands on earth All the pieces should be down about 40 minutes later Official in Barrie recently to gather commission data By DENNIS LANTHIER The Examiner An Ontario Police Commission advisor visited Barrie last week to gather informa tion concerning
