similar to that of Britain However there is no written British constitution but only precedent and tradition Canadas constitution is the BNA Act which was framed in 1864 and went into effect in 1867 Britains constitution is flexible and has been adjusted with the times whereas Canada is handicap ed by rigid constitution now 112 years old It is very dif icult to make changes However the BNA Act has been amended and one of the first changes was made on June 28 1871 The amendment gave Canadas Parliament the right to establish new provinces and alter boundaries These changes were urgent in 1871 when British Columbia joined Confederation and when Prince Edward Island followed two years later There was also great deal of dissatisfaction with boundaries especially between Quebec and Ontario and Ontario and Manitoba Substantial settlements were reached in 1884 Themost difficult question was the boundary between Ontario and Manitoba Before Manitoba became prov ince Upper Canada claimed the territory as far west as the Rocky Mountains However after 1870 the dispute was whether the boundary should be just west of Thunder Bay or the North West Angle of Lake of the Woods The federal government sup ported Manitobas claim that the boundary should be just west of Thunder Bay and Rat Portage now Kenora Ont was represented in the Manitoba legislature for short time The British Privy Council upheld Ontarios claim and so the present boundary was established In 1905 it was the federal government that arranged the boundaries of Alberta and Saskatchewan which became provinces in that How does an elderly clear mums from his chest AK Its problem especially for an elderly patient with lung problems like emphysema which you may or may not have common cause of the diffi culty is insufficient fluid in take healthy about eight glasses of liquid day so take stock of that Avoid lungirritants such as smoking Lungs remove certain amount of fluid from the body by themselves each day several ounces Any disruption can make them less efficient in doing this job How can you force removal of lung secretions The answer is in postural drainage Prop hip on several pillows and lie on that side for few minutes Al ternate with the opposite hip If you can manage perhaps bet ter way is to lie over your bed with your upper body leaning toward the floor It requires some agility so go about it carefully If you have therapist family member can be taught another effective method percussion This involves rhythmical tapping on your chest with open hands to help loosen mucus in the bronchial tube Some people can do it themselves but it requires practice Percussing is done on each side of the chest under the arm area while the patient person needs is lying face down Tone doctors recommend steam inhalation Dear Dr Ruble My son is diabetic He is on insulin 70 ccs day He was told he can drink whisky or gin up to nine shots day or more so long as he dilutes with water pop tomato juice or orange juice Do you think this is cor rect GER dont think his doctor is telling him this certainly wouldnt The fact that he is on this much insulin tells me he should be doing his level best to restrict carbohydrate intake from any source Diet even for one on insulin is the most important thing in controlling diabetes Alcohol is carbohy drate which is converted to sugar This excess should be avoided no matter what it is mixed with or howitsdiluted The pop and juices are sources of calories and must be taken into account in his daily intake of food in general It sounds as though your son is missing the boat entirely in his control program He needs clearer instructions Some areas conduct diabetic control classes Check with hospital near you FOR MRS AB Based on the very nice photograph full length you sent me of your son see no need in the world for him to lose weight Nor do the statistics 510 and 170 pounds indicate any serious overweight problem BRIDGE Oswald Jacoby and Alan Sontag Search all roads tO game Vulnerable Both Dealer East West North East South Pass Pass PaSS Pass Pass Pass Pass Pass Opening lead By Oswald Jacoby and Alan Sontag Things didnt look good for South after the defense started with two spades and spade ruff East had passed as dealer and since he had already shown up with the aceking of spades the diamond finesse was very probable loser West led trump at trick four South won in dummy and decided to see if some thing good could be done with clubs Maybe someone held kingoueensmall So he cashed dummys ace of clubs and led and ruffed second club Neither honor dropped so no good could come of the club suit He couldnt get more than one discard It looked as if the diamond finesse would be necessary but South saw one slight extra chance He led his jack of spades Eureka The extra chance had paid off West could not ruff and South was able to discard one of dummys diamonds on that good spade Then it was cinch to cash the ace of diamonds and cross ruff for the rest of the tricks Ask IM analIg You hold 10 10 Your partner responds two clubs to your onespade opening bid You rebid two hearts and your partner jumps to three spades Missouri
