Will defy authorities says network owner TORONTO CPI The owner of pirate television network in Northern Canada said Thursday he will defy federal authorities and keep his stations on the air until he has consulted the people in the communities they serve David Brough who operates 37 TV stations without broad casting licence from the ana dian Radiotelevision and Tele communications Commission CHTC was refused television licences for 17 Northern On tario communities Wednesday including five he already serves The commission also post poned decisions on licences for eight other communities he serves through his Northern Ac cess Network feel have an enormous obligation to see that the people in the North receive good al ternative television and in tend to pursue that Brough said obituary MARGARET MCDONALD Thornton lost wellknown resident last month when Mrs Margaret Ethel McDonald died May 27 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie native of 0m Township Mrs McDonald was born July 12 1880 the daughter of the late Richard and Isabella Corbetti Pearson Her family moved to lvy when Mrs McDonald was still guite young and her girlhood ays were spent there Her marriage to James McDonald took place on Dec 23 1903 and the couple made their home on the McDonald farm in Essa Township Mrs McDonald was an active member of the lownline Presbyterian church and at tended Thornton United Chur chin later years She is survived by son Roy and daughters Lucille Mrs Russell Elphick and Winnifred granddaughter Doreen Mrs John Guyers six great grandchildren and brother Howard She was predeceased by her husband James son Lloyd grandson Ronald Elphick five sisters and two brothers Funeral service was con ducted by Rev Rice May 30 at Steckley Funeral Home in Barrie Interment was in Thornton Union stations in 250 Northern communities which are served by CBC or have no service ANT MAKE MONEY By denying applications for the larger communities and postponing licensing the smaller ones the CRTC is preventing the network from making money he said Brough said he will consult the communities by meeting with the stations board of di rectors composed of commu nity representatives or by hold ing an openline television show The fact that people have in vitcd him to set up stations in their communities and have kept them operating by dona tions proves they want his serv ice he said The five
