More unwed mothers opt to keep children TORONTO CP The On tario secretary for social devel opment says she is disturbed by the number of unwed mothers in the province who are keeping their children rather than giv ing them up for adoption Margaret Birch told news conference Monday that 88 per cent of unwed mothers in 1977 kept their children compared with less than onethird of un wed mothers in the late 19605 Ministry figures show that 511 children were adopted in 1966 compared with 5077 chil dren in 1977 Mrs Birch said she does not think young unwed girl is able to look after child Often
