the art of rug hooking six years ago Mrs Ashton has made more than 200 items ranging from small pic torial pieces which are framed and hung on the walls of her home to large Orientalstyle rugs Shes won prizes for the pas five years at local competi tions She doesnt sell her work preferring to send it out to shows display it in her home and use it for demonstrations at her hooking classes REPLTATION As teacher her reputation has spread as far as Alberta where shes held workshops in Calgary and Edmonton She teaches night school class at Eastview Collegiate and MW has more than 100 students throughout Simcoe County She travels regularly to hooking workshops in the US where she shrres idea with American instructors Rug hooking is an art that Fare big success to preVIew films With project is the opening of combinaton tea room and craft supply shop in The Downtown Centre next month LOCAL GALLERY As the new art club president Mrs Ashton plans to continue the clubs efforts to establish local gallery for art displays and other cultural events Graham Scholes the clubs new vicepresident and an ac complished watercolor artist will be concentrating his energies on the proposed
