friends 15 mile run is simply part of daily routine military policeman with the Canadian Forces School of Intelligence and Security lCFSISi at Base Borden he average about 100 miles week doing what he calls my main hobby But next Thursday June 21 the 33yearold sergent in tends to run 100 miles in one day and make each step count literally Each mile he completes will mean money in the kitty for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children voluntary organization founded in 1957 by CFSIS colonel with blind daughter Mind you there is always bit of personal challenge but the money is the main reason says Sgt Gingras So far pledges from the bases community total $300 but big push is being made this week to raise more says Capt Dave Clemis CFSIS public relations officer for fund at CFB Borden Although the communities outside CFB Borden will not be actively canvassed cash donations would be welcome says Capt Clemis and anyone wishing to make one cati contact him at 4241200 extension 2457 The fund is recognized charitable organization and 100 per cent of the money goes to the blind says Capt Clemix There are no administrative costs apart from mailing ex penses completely voluntary miles and with another officer brought the pledge total to $1200 It is the fist time however that he is attempting 100 miles and how long it will take him is question cant answer he says would like to finish it in about 19 hours During this period Sgt Gingras will complete 400 laps around the bases quartermile track changing direction every 10 laps to break the monotony and to avoid putting too much strain on one leg The 137pound sergeant says he expects to gain weight during the run because of the liquid he will consume make my own special recipe of milk icecream and bananas he says Leisure
