Noticed as planted some annuals last week that they were covered in white flys Will spray them with the hose sprayer using liquid Sevin tomorrow Aphids were on my roses and they got dose of Sevin today With this humid weather blackspot and mildew could be pro blem with roses so will spray them with Benomyl Delphiniums and perennial phlox will appreciate some benomyl spray and also bergamont as mildew is bad on them The red spider is real pest to all gardeners hard rinse with the hose will help keep them off evergreens in the foundation planting The birch leaf minor wiich makes the leaves go all brown is in full swing just now Spray with Cygon according to directions even if you did paint the trunk in the spring You can also drench the soil with the solution Cygon is systemic insecticide and is absorbed into the sap and carried to the very tip of the plant For some years have been advocating lsotox as an allpurpose spray but this was put out by Ortho and is now off the market unless someone still has supply on hand However Wilsons systemic spray is very similar and will do the job Always do your spraying when it is calm in the evening or early morn mg Slugs will soon be around to eat your tender plants especially marigolds Prevention is better than cure so get some slug pellets put them under shrubs all over the planted area three to square foot Dampen them little and repeat the process about July and Sept This should keep slugs under control If you only have small area saucer of beer may suffice and this catches Japanese beetles also You can also pick them off the plants and drop them into hot water Dust your cabbagestomatocs and potatoc with the dust sold for this purpose before they get damaged SOCIETY NEWS Sorry the June tour was cancelled Only seven people booked
