secondary institutions in 1980 by increasing enrolment immediately College president Wayne Busch said Tues day surplus revenue would be used to pay for this years expansion expected to be 10 per cent Additional revenue earned in the following year under the per capita plan would be used to again expand college programs and in crease service to the Georgian Bay region Georgians ultimate goal Busch said If the money doesnt come in by the fall of 1980 well have to cut back programs and tell the students to go elsewhere Busch said Programs in the business and technology divisions and adult retraining will see the bulk of the growth These programs will pro vide the type of skilled worker the regions companies need Busch said during an in formal news conference Under the fixed financing scheme initiated by the ministry of colleges and universities in 1975 there is no financial reward for colleges increasing enrolment Prior to that year On tario used per capita grant system MUST MOVE This is the time weve got to move right now Busch said later Since his appointment last October Busch has lectured anyone who listened on need for skilled employees and Georgians desire to keep prospective students from leaving the region Weve been very modest he said of the college Now were trying to do things that maybe we should have done five years ago About 600 people from this region are at Toronto community colleges Each repre sents loss of $8000 in revenue for total not counting the multiplier effect of $5 million Busch said Tuesday Many of these trained people do not return to work and that hurts local employers he ad ded The college is planning an extensive cam paign designed to draw people that includes recruitment centre in Toronto Earlier this month Busch told The Ex aminer of Georgians attempt to get larger grant from the province through geo graphical allowance Because the college serves such large area it may be in line for an allowance given Ontarios northern schools We are hoping for five per cent adjust ment in 1979 budget of $12 million For us it would mean lialfamillion dollars Busch said The five per cent would be added if ap plicable to the 1980 operating budget and would be in addition to any increase that results from the change to per capita financ mg DR PETER WATSON service planned County MOH dies at 48 Dr Peter Watson director and
