paloosa division of Hoof Beat 79 at Molsons Park Trew has been riding and en oying it since he was two years old In 1977 he was the Ontario Reserve Champion in the lead line class Last year he was Hoofbeat 79 is attracting some of Canadas best names in Equestrian Competition and if Sundays English hunter jumper competition at Moisons Park is an indication theyll be coming back more often Canadas National Equestrian coach Tom Gayford said the fourth annual show is reaching point where it will attract more Toronto area riders Its pleasant event he said after placing third in the Molsons open jumper class in soakingdrizzle With just little bit more organization itll move up there as popular show Gayford former Olympic competitor and goldmedalist designed the show courses for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Although retired from com petitive jumping since 1972 Gayford still competes along with his family Gayford says shows like Hoofbeat are important to local riders if they hope to compete at the level and in Olympic class events Whenever theyre exposed to better competition theyll improve he said GROWN QUICKLY Stewart Bell honorary show chairman said the event has grown quickly in four years and should become the largest interbreed hose show in Canada next year Appaloosa and Quarter Horse fans competed in the first half of the show largest of the year so far Saturday Sundays events saw 97 horses competing for cash prizes and trophies donated by local sponsors Martha Gayford won the senior championship and the reserve championshop on two of the Bayland Stables horses owned by her father Keep In Touch and Easy Going Heidi Schaeffer won the junior championship on Edelweiss Ginny Gayford was the reserve champion on Keep In Touch Doug Henry member of the pleasure class on Jets Lady Bug which he shows and trains for farm in Pennsylvania McCauley frequently trains and shows horses from Minnesota Texas Oklahoma and Penn sylvania He says that honesty ability to win and being able to lose without backbitting are im portant characteristics of pro fessional For Laura McArthur of Kleinburg this year is new experience Miss McArthur was the 1978 quarterama queen quarterama is the largest Canadian quarterhorse show Her new home has won first at her first show McArthur won fourth in pleasure and fifth in trail Saturday This year McArthur added
