Nw like mother earth By DOROTHY KILBURN Seasons of the Soul is the name of new record of Chris tiansongs by the Omartian particularly meaningful How true it is that the mother earth summers and ty We all love the summer name which thought was ouI has its seasons just as old winters with unfailing regulari time of the soul when health is good things are working well for us and the joy of the Lord is our portion But what about the times when we sit so alone and pain pinches our nerve ends and the sullen sky drips dreary rain There are two things to remember in such situations the first is that Christian Galatians 11 Our feelings Shepherd leading The second thing lives by faith and not by feeling can never change the historical fact that Christ loved us enough to die for us that He is our and guiding and allowing only that to come into our lives which will ultimately work for our good to remember is that we are to keep our eyes upon the Lord and not on our troubles This attitude is beautifully illustrated in the story of Peter walking on the water When the Lord called to Peter to come to Him walk ing on the water Peter fixed his eyes on the Lord and started out He did famously until He took his eyes off the Lord and looked at the waves Then he began to sink and cried out Lord save me When we keep our eyes upon our troubles instead of on the Lord we live worried frustrated joyless lives But if we look to the Lord and consider what He went through to prove His love and to provide forgiveness for us are strengthened are are willing to leave the worrisome details of our lives in Ihs hands Then as we learn to have faith and trust in the Lord we can say with the Psalmi which concemeth me Psalm 1388 st The Lord will perfect that REV MERYLE DOLAN winds uc crusade Dolan activities to purely liturgical functions be cause of growing shortage of diocesan priests the rector of St Augustines Seminary says Rev Harold ONeill said the population is growing faster than the number of priests to serve the people forcing many parishes to restrict social and counselling services Since 1974 the Roman Catho lic population has increased about 30 per cent to one million but the number of diocesan priests has increased only three per cent to 300 Father ONeill said He attributed much of the population increase to an influx of Roman Catholic immigrants The Church has had to pro vide ethnic assistants in ethic areas that used to have all Eng lishspeaking priests With pastor and two Englishspeak ing assistants the others as sistantS could take care of the social needs of the parish To day pastor cant count on having two assistantsor even one Father ONeill said he was encouraged by an increase in the number of applicants for the priesthood which has allowed the seminary to be more selective in accepting po tential priests Fund drive MONTREAL CP The Ca nadian Centre for Ecumenism founded by PaulEmile Car dinal Leger 16 years ago is in the midst of countrywide drive to
