Editor Stephen Gouer Johnson says more TV investment needed her TORONTO CP Television broadcasters need more Canadian programs before they eliminate shows from the United States the president of the Canadian stations now show up to four hours of US programs for every hour of programming produced in this country To reduce this ratio Johnson said new cable systems should be limited to four US channels and the introduction of pay tele vision should be postponed for at least five years In an interview Johnson said the CBC might have to ask Par liament for more money if it is forced to drop all foreign light entertainment programs Although the Canadian Radiotelevision and Tele communications Commission iCRTC ordered the CBC to eliminate MASll Mork and Mindy and other foreignpro duced order in series of meetings next week he can appeal to the cabinet Johnson also said advertisers should consider specifying that their spot television com mercials be placed on Canadian programs rather than on US programs even if the US rates are lower To do this is essentially to make cultural investment in the country Afirst for harmonica players This year for the first time anywhere in
