Farmers want tough laws to deal with trespassers By STEPHEN GAUER Of The Examiner Tough new trespassing regulations designed to aid farmers and protect them from unjustified lawsuits would be welcome in Simcoe County say two spokesmen for the Simcoe County Cattlemens Associa tion Don Woodrow president of the association and Norm Langman an association direc tor agree that new regulations planned by the provincial govemmentincluding an in crease in the maximum fine for trespassing to $1000 from 8100would help deter would be trespassers from damaging livestock and property on coun tyfarms Its good idea to raise the fines for trespassing said Woodrow No one should be allowed to come onto property without asking If the new laws make people come to the door and ask permission to enter from Monday to Thursday and 830 am to pm Friday to Sun day from May 18 to June 22 From June 22 to Sept Labor Day the locks will be open from830am to730pm From Labor Day until the close of the boating season Oct 10 the locks will be open from 830 am till 430 pm every day The decision to extend weekend hours from May 18 to June 22 follows public meetings held in the fall of 1977 and 1978 by the more of problem Langman said hed like torsee the season The spokesman said to ex tend the weekend hours in the early part of the season it was necessary to move the closing time ahead by one and half hours in July and August An analysis of canal use shows traffic after pm is minimal he said and for budget reasons Parks Canada would not be able to man the canal for the extra hours early in the
