of an outdoor setting Canadas best known festivals are the Mariposa Folk Festival held on Toronto Island and the Winnipeg Folk Festival But for Barrie folk fans theres one festival much closer to home the Owen ffi Sound Summerfolk Festival to be held Aug 17 18 and 19 at Kelso Beach Park on the shores of Georgian Bay The Georgian Bay Folk Society organizers of the festival have just released the name of the performers appearing at this years festival Close to 50 performers will appear at the threeday festival Betterknown performers include Eric Anderson Luke Gibson Willie Bennett Ralfi Ryans Fancy and David Essig Also scheduled to appear is Tony Bird an African singersongwriter whose recent Bird of Paradise album was such critical success in North America Most of the other performers are something of mystery ls there really band called the Honalulu Ileartbrcakers Or the Empire Stove and Furnace Company Dixieland Jazz Band the Forest City Morris Men Tickets prices for the folk festival remain unchanged from last year Advance weekend passes are $12 Passes for Saturday or Sunday are $7 and tickets for the opening con cert on Friday night are $4 Kids under 12 are admitted free to the that sets the stage for the establishment of Barries first public art gallery Votes are still being counted on the question of club in corporation which will enable the club to buy real estate and apply for govern ment grants but as of Tues Design students display work The annual ThirdYear Stu dent Show presented by students of the Georgian Col lege Creative and Material Arts programs will be held at Georgian College from May to 16 The best of the students Works in weaving stained glass ceramics sculptures prints paintings blown glass and drawings will be displayed for public viewing The show entitled Expres sions will be opened by Georgian College President Wayne Busch on Sunday at pm At the same time Busch will open the Ontario Craft Councils OCCI Central Region Annual Juried Craft Ex hibition which will be held at Georgian College in conjunc tion with the student show draw for queenltsize ivory coloured quilt designed and sewn by the Design Arts students as scholarship fund the secondplace winner in the composers com petition sponsored by the womens committee of the sym phony last December The Davies composition was the thirdplace winner Miss Brickenden has played with
