Caryl Chessman was probably the most famous prisoner who ever lived For almost 12 years he was living symbol for in dividuals and organizations who believe capital punishment is barbaric and should be on death row he wrote book Cell 2455 Death Row and had it smuggled out of prison The book was bestseller and provided Chessman with the funds to carry on the battle to save his life Many of the reprieves did not come through until the execution date On more than one occasion he was almost on his way to the gas chamber when some legal ploy or other would save him Two further books Trial by
