legislation is cutting down the number of fatalities and injuries suffered in traffic accidents says Sgt Andy Austin of the Ontario Pro vincial Police He says fatalities dropped by 16 per cent in 1977 in District of the OPP which includes Grey Simcoe and Bruce counties and has its head quarters in Barrie 1n the first four months of 1978 the number of injuries reported were 53 says Sgt Austin down 27 from 80 in 1976 Sgt Austin says heavy con centration on enforcing the seatbelt law since August of 1977 has led to the promising statistics In 1977 we laid 2572 charges districtwide and warned another 5579 drivers he says In the first four months of 1978 To World Mgig ngtival Lottery to help pay trip lottery is being held to help pay the costs for the Barrie Central Collegiate Bands trip to the Kerkrade World Music Contest in Holland this sum mer We will be selling just 1000 tickets in this lottery and there will be 72 prizes This means person will have one in 14 chance of winning says Robert Holt chairman of the Barrie Central Collegiate Band Association lottery committee The cost of the lottery ticket is $25 First prize in the lottery is $5000 cash second prize is $500 and there documents filed by Ford at the request of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration The agency is investigating claims that defect put the automatic transmissions into reverse causing the vehicles to run over or crush bystanders The latest Ford documents indicate that such tran smission failures may have been responsible for at least 277 acudents 100 injuries and nine deaths since 1966
