Examiner Barrie child is blamed for setting fires in neighboring Barrie apartment buildings Thursday that resulted in an estimated $50000 damage city police said today Insp Ron Pickard said police are not contemplating charging the youngster for setting fires in two buildings on Grove Street East near St Vincent Street Insp Pickard would not release the name or age of the child because he is child of tender years and is entitled to protection of his identity under law This chiéd is not resident of either building he sat Police and the Ontario Fire Marshals Office were called in to investigate after two fires broke out within minutes of each other in the storage rooms of the two buildings Firefighters responded to third floor fire in Highview Apartments at the corner of Grove and St Vincent Streets at 118 pm At 215 another fire was reported in the basement of the neighboring building at 178 Grove St SWEPI THIRD FLOOR Fire in Highview started in locker storage room and swept through the thjrd floor causing extensive damage An open window and door at the end of the hall provided chimney effect for the fire which crept along the corridor burning doors and charring walls IntenSe heat according to an in formal poll conducted today by The Ex aminer along Dunlop St Five of 11 interviewed favored the action of the opposition in bringing down the govern ment over budget that did nothing for the working man Four people said the government of Prime Minister Joe Clark had presented realistic budget He should have been given time to implement it before decision was made on its worth they said Two of 11 believed the budget was in itself worthwhile but doubted whether they would support Clark again next time Those professing support for the Conser vatives also expressed anger that an election was called at all UNHAPPY AT ELECTION Im unhappy an election will take place Al Otto of Barrie told The Examiner Clark deserved chance and he only had 60 days to try Otto and other supporters of the Prime Minister said the increase in oil and gas through an excise tax was necessary though harsh The increase in taxes however angered others The budget was tough on people in this
