two central Ontario ski areas are taking notice of Toronto womans campaign to improve safety measures on the slopes The Blue Mountain and Mansfield areas have agreed to give Canadian Ski Patrol members authority to discipline skiers this season but Bev Wasylow of Toronto hopes her campaign will extend to other ski resorts There are too many people on our hills who dont know how to ski properly and they are en dangering other skiers says Wasylow pointing out that there were 1500 accidents in the BarrieOrilliaCollingwood area last season and 49 per cent of the injuries were either suf fered or caused by skiers who had never taken any ski les sons Since last February when she was called upon to give first aid to two injured skiers at Horse shoe Valley near Barrie Was ylow has launched campaign to improve safety measures at Ontario resorts She helped form the Con trolled Skiing Committee an 11member body which includes herself and representatives from the Ontario Ski Council and the resorts to study ways of eliminating skiing accidents She said one of the skiers in volved in the Horseshoe Valley accident she witnessed last Febmary was 12yearold boy from Toronto high school who had never skied before Yet there he was on an ad vanced hill recalls Wasylow What was he doing there in the first place Why wasnt he on the beginners hill 11 was there found the Ca nadian Ski Patrollcrs dont have any authority to tell skiers where they cant and can ski If they see somebody skiing in way that endangers others they can only report it to the bar or chair lift operators or the management who have au thority to revoke the skiers tow ticket so um WM 05 POI nus smniio JAN Horseshoe VIIIon School 8352014 PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR FOR ALL SPORTS Combined With
