Alouettes in this Sun days Grey Cup game from Toronto Game Sunday afternoon is carried on CBCTV and CTV Epic suspense drama Natalie returns to FLAGSTAFF Arix The thing is that not far from this northern Arizona city there is big hole in the ground Not just your everyday hole either This one scientists say was made 20000 years ago when meteor smacked into the earth And so of course the good folks at American lntemational Pictures figured this would be the perfect place to premiere their new disaster movie Meteor After all the movie is about what might hap pen if meteor smacked into the earth today So we all went out to see Meteor Crater 60 stories deep where AIP had stationed two bartenders in white tails passing out bottles of an importedfromAlsace beer conveniently named Meteor Hows that for attention to pro motional details Martin Landau was there for the entire weekend Sean Con nery and Natalie Wood both managed part of it The other stars and the director Ronald Neame were unable to attend but producer Sandy Howard and Sam Arkoff the head of AIP were there Connery said that Meteor was the first film he had done in long time that was shot en tirely in studio He says he prefers to work on location and that he got sick when he was shooting Meteor in the studio in Hollywood but isnt sure if there was any connection PRAISED ARKOFF Connery praised Arkoff for being man who made deci sions and stuck to them Most movies today Con nery said are done through mostly committee decisions Thers are very few men in the movie industry now who have the power or the guts to make decision There is Sam Arkoff and there is Joe Levine and then you can start to look around but thats about it the examiner Friday Nov 23 1979 11A Natalie Wood is an interpreter and Sean Con nery an American scientist in Meteor He says that when people of fer him deals and contracts and such his guiding principle is can he understand it himself If its simple and can understand it he says then its OK and Ill do it But if cant understand it then get suspicious Ive been had more times than the Happy Hooker But he adds he would take deal with Joe Levine simply on handshake basis In Meteor Connery is an American scientist who teams with Brian Keith as Russian scientist to try to stop the awesome meteor heading ear thward Natalie Wood is the in terpreter who bridges the language gap between them Keith speaks only Russian in the film Natalie Wood who comes from Russian family and spoke Russian as child says that she studied for three mon ths to get back her Russian fluency and also to learn the technical words she was oblig ed to say Id spoken it as child she says but had never studied it formally So studied and as surprised when my teacher told me spoke with Ukrainian ac cent Brian was amazing And his accent was amazingly good He learned all his lines phonetical ly of course After she finished Meteor Natalie went to Russia on her first trip to do television show She only visited Len ingrad the site of the show and she was there 14 days and spoke lot of Russian Her show deals with the famed Heritage Museum in Leningrad and she cohosts it with Peter Ustinov Because of her Russian heritage she says when she first set foot on Russian soil there was temporary cominghome feeling But she says that Me FEELSAMERICAN the TV teor didnt last long and soon she couldnt wait to come home Now she says feel more American than ever Meteor was Natalies first film since Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice She says she has work phases and nonwork phases in her life and she thinks that Meteor heralds the start of another work phase Since Meteor she has done miniseries From Iere To Etemity and another movie The Cracker Fae tory And she recently finish ed another feature The Last Iarried Couple In America nd her Russian TV special and has another TV movie The Memory of Eva Ryker com ing soon Arkoff says that Meteor was the toughest film hes made and he and AIP have made more than 500 films The problems were in the special ef fects after the principal photography was done Today he says weve gotten beyond the point where special effects for special ef fects sake are enough Today special effects have to have an emotional impact filahgs fiestaurant Tfltb SEAFOOD STEAKHOIJSE Catering tor all occasuons For Reservations call 4167756361 olland St Hwy Bradford Ont FOUR GOOD
