Tysons con Ms Tyson has recently the examiner Friday Nov 16 1979 1979 Toronto Sun Syndlcate License to kill fla rt Onti Last October travelled to the tiny village of Rovingdon England to research the unbelievable case of Graham Young You may recall that Young poisoned his family in 19m when he was only fourteen years old Released from Boradmoor nine years later he proceeded to poison coIlt leagues at his place of employment in Hovingdon Alter causing two deaths and many bouts of illness he was taken into custody In 1072 he was tried for murder convicted and is presently in prison The Young case received worldwide publicity as it went to the very heart of major social quest ions the western world has been grappling with for years Should our judicial system emphasize rehabilitation or punishment Does capital punishment save lives At the time believed that the bizarre case of the obsessive child poisoner who had tooled psychiatrists and lawyers into releasing him to kill again was an isolated inci dent was wrong At approximately the same time another young man age fifteen was following the same path as Graham Young The methods of killing were different but the dates the motives and even the mental ability of the two murderers are so similar they stretch coincidence to the limit The other boys name is Edmund Kemper This is his storv Edmund was born on Dec 18 1948 in Burbank California His father was huge man towering ft ins while his mother Clarnell stood an even feet The Kempcrs had three children Susan the oldest Edmund and Allyn Ed munds parents argued incessantly There is no evidence that either parent ever physically abused their son Edmund as the only boy in the house may have felt some rejection by his mother who probably iden tified him with her husband Eventually in 1957 Mr Kemper left his wife and never returned Clarnell was to go to work to support her three children She would marry twice again In the meantime Clarnell moved to Helena Montana where she obtained employment as secretary She made new home for her three children but Edmund was miserable He longed for his father and visited him at every opportunity at his new home in Los Angeles Mr Kemper had remarried At the age of ten Edmund who was tall big boned boy Save up to 30 on this years heat bill Provide greater inhome comfort FOUR GOOD REASONS TO INSTALL CEILING FAN NOWII began exhibiting some strange traits Ile enjoyed taking the arms legs and heads off his younger sisters dolls When he was only thirteen years old Edmund shot dog belonging to another boy who lived nearly He had been wellschooled in the use of firearms by his father who prided himself in hav ing been member of the Special Service during the Second World War After the incident with the dog neighboring children mocked and made fun of Edmund From then on Edmund Kemper had to close contact with anyone other than his mother Their relationship was strange in many ways Edmund always brought his troubles to his mother who seemed concerned but their discussions usually ended in shouting matches Shortly after Edmund killed the dog he cut the head off the family pet Siamese cat This time he was terrified at what he had done and quickly buried the cat his backyard Led normal life In September 1962 Edmund went to live with his father in Los Angeles He was ecstatic For few months he led happy normal existence At Christmas Mr Kemper visited his parents on their farm at North Fork Calif Most fifteen yearold boys would look forward to visit with grand parents down on the farm Not Edmund He suspected his family of subterfuge For the first time in his life Edmunds instincts were correct His father left him on the farm and returned to Los Angeles Grandfather Edmund Kemper was 72 and retired He still did some farming on his eight acre spread Maude Kemper at spent her spare time writing children stories All of this was an idyllic situation for the elderly couple but was utterly boring for Edmund His grandfather detected the unrest in the young lad and presented Edmund with rifle to shoot gophers and rabbits At school in the nearby town of Tollhouse Edmund did well making from plus to minus in all his subjects The school term ended and Edmundwent to Helena to visit with his mother and her third husband In two weeks he was back on the farm with his grandparents There was marked change in Edmunds behavior He now appeared even more withdrawn and sullen continued next week Recoup your investment in year or less Conserve energy Heat rises RIGHT ceiling fan will
