to discuss roads By DENNIS LANTHIER Of The Examiner Various problems with roads in the county will be the subject of meeting today between dive Simcoe County mayors and the provincial government The mayors of Barrie Orillia Collingwood Midland and Penetanguishene will meet with James Snow minister of transportation and communica tions Thursday in Midland In Barries case it is roads that it has been asked to assist help pay for by the Suburban Roads Commission will be dic sussed Barrie Mayor Ross Ar cher said today During the winter some addi tional roads were added by the commission to the list of roads Barrie already contributes to the mayor said One of those roads included the alternate route to Wasaga Beach said the mayor Council members didnt feel Barrie was justified in helping to pay for the roads because they didnt feel the roads were really beneficial to Barrie Mayor Archer said Simcoe County munici palities pay 25 per cent of cost for maintenance of suburban roads while the province picks up the remaining 75 per cent Shanty Bay and Big Bay Point roads are two examples of routes the city now helps sup port The suburban roads commis sion will have enough funds in reserve to help carry it through 1979 but Barrie will probably have to pay more in 1980 said Peter Westwood assistant clerk Any increase youre going to feel Westwood said today Everybody is trying to cut back their costs Midland is also concerned with the condition of the road between Collingwood and Midland said the mayor The road is in pretty poor shape he said and it may be asking for some provincial funds to help improve that route Barrie doe not have the same problem because the main highway between Barrie and Orillia is quite good Mayor Archer said The session was arranged by Midland Mayor
