mak ing legal points on what to ap peal on Ald Arthur said Ald Arthur said Barrie was mentioned during Wellss ad dress as one reason there was backlog of annexation matters WANTED MONEY An AMO expressed their disappointment Mon daywhen the townships coun cil told them it had no answers to their concerns about an in dustrial waste that occurred nar their homes in June 1978 Reeve George Buie told residents council was still awaiting an overdue report from its solicitor The solicitor was now on holiday Reeve Buie said and council had not receiv ed his opinions on the matter befor he had left Venner Lambert deputy reeve apologized to the delega tion and said council was em barrassed by the situation Joanne Kellogg Snow Valley Road resident acting as spokesman for the delegation since the issue arose last month said however she was disappointed by the lack of communication to the residents on councils part understood the solicitor would be here to answer ques tions Mrs Kellogg said It wasnt until Friday that learn ed he would not be here It has been month since we inquired and think some answer is in order The residents began worrying last month after ministry of environment and Simcoe Coun ty health unit officials notified them that the spill which oc curred at chemical waste transfer station owned by Chemical Petro Waste CPW Disposal Ltd could con taminate their water wells by working its way through the water table The spill occurred when plastic liner ruptured in lagoon used to store industrial waste NOTIFIED RESIDENTS Dr David Korn acting medical officer of health for the county notified residents in letter last month that although the spill presented potential hazard there was no evidence of contamination of wells at that time The ministry is monitoring the wells on regular basis At meeting with council however residents presented petition demanding the station be closed In an accompanying letter Mrs Kellogg also demanded to know why the township authorized such use of the land when it was zoned agriculturalresidential not in dustrial why residents within certain distance were not notified when the operation began in 1977 and what action council intended to take against the company to protect the in terest of the residents in terms of dollars and cents Reeve Buie told Mrs Kellogg Monday that an amendment to the zoning had been approved by the Ontario housing ministry for the location of such an operation Coun Lambert also told Mrs Kellogg the ministry had advertised the zoning amend ment in Barrie newspapers and they ministry believe this is all that is required in terms of notifying residents Mrs Kellogg then told council that residents had been notified when gas pipeline had been installed near their residences and said she was puzzled why this had not been done in the case of the chemical transfer station Mrs Kellogg persisted in questioning council on whether the site had been used to store chemicals that council had not been aware of at the time of the companys application At previous meeting several councillors indicated they were under the impression Enjoy The Canadian National Exhibition the site would be used for petroleum waste only Coun Lambert told Mrs Kellogg there had been misunderstanding and that the application probably did include chemicals as well He said council was trying its best to answer her quesions but that Mrs Kellogg was trying to grill council and trip it up at every opportunity Mrs Kellogg said this was not her intention but there is big difference between pro bany and the facts ONLY $1050 Avoid
