goes to speak The services are aimed towards those who have not accepted Christ as their saviour Its for everyone of all faiths believe Jesus relates to everybody he said Alliston plays festival host this weekend The 5th annual Alliston Potato Festival gets under way Thursday and residents of thi selfstyled potato capital of On tario will spend four days of community spirited celebra tions The festival will kick off at 730 pm Thursday when local beauties will vie for the title of queen says Joan Hayward former member of the festival commit tee and wife of this years chairman The activities will pick up momentum Friday with bed race along Victoria Street star ting at pm followed by parade of floats and bands at pm says Mrs Hayward There are about 140 entrants and the parade should take about two hours TRY LUCK street dance will be the next attraction on Victoria Street and gamblers will be able to trv their luck at the Canadian Legions Monte Carlo Night Victoria Street will be block ed off to traffic for the entire festival weekend The celebrations will con tinue Saturday with potato pancake breakfast at am followed by flea market at 10 am where crafts jewelry paintings and food will all be on sale says Mrs Hayward There will be childrens games in Riverdale Park Satur day as well as baseball tour nament and midwy ride for the kids will be available all weekend she says Saturdays list of events also includes free hot air balloon rides bus tours to potato farms in the area horse show at the KelloggSalada grounds and firemans competition at the Alliston Union Public School BARBECUE Saturday afternoon will be highlighted by Rotary Club beef barbecue at 430 pm says Mrs Hayward and about 2000 people are expected to at tend There will be choice of four dances during the evening the Kinsmens good time dance teen dance at Banting Memorial High School modern square dance at Alliston Union Public School and dance at the Canadian Legion Sunday will wind down the festival with lokilometre jogathon at 830 am followed by gospel singers in Riverdale Park until noon The flea market will move from Victoria Street into the park where childrens games will continue and kids will be treated to puppet show Donkey baseball will be the special event of the day at pm and performance by the Alliston concert band will bring the festival to close at 630 pm Admission to the park will be free this year says Mrs Hayward except for the donkey baseball Proceeds from the festival will be donated towards an ex tension of the existing library says Mrs Hayward and any left Board of Education and trustee for Oro just wanted tobeinvolved At the time nine years ago all four daughters of Lloyd and Joan Fletcher were attending county schools Were developing new generation and regard that as very important task he says Fletcher served the board as vicechairman for two years before being elected chairman by the trustees in the winter of 1977 Each chairman serves two years and he says know ex actly how many meetings left in my term Its very tiring with the add ed responsibility of being chair man and its been tough two years Fletcher says WONT COMPLAIN The French
