General Montcalm is best known as the loser of the battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759 He was one of the most capable military leaders who ever fought in North America He became commander the French forces in North America in 1756 and almost immediately gained control of Lake Ontario by capturing Oswego NY from the British He took 1600 prisoners and battle He cap the British in 1757 I21 de Garillon as the French called Ticonderoga few weeks later on August 1758 he defeated the British again at Fort William Henry That battle had tragic sequel Montcalm allowed the British soldiers to march to Fort Edward taking one cannon with them in recognition of their gallant defence However Montcalm warned the British not to carry any liquor They got around this by filling their water bottles with liquor and began drinking during the march Mont calms troops included large number of Indians and the sight of the British soldier drinking was too much for them They took the liquor from the British soldiers and went berserk Of the 2200 British who left Fort william llcnry only 1400 arrived at Fort Edward Montcalm tried to stop the slaughter He shouted to Indian leaders Kill me but spare do you say about food additives and their relationship to hyperactivity in kids First we were told it was bad and now we are told to forget it Mrs You are referring of course to the socalled Feingold Diet Dr Feingolds claim was that 40 per cent of hyperactive or learning disabled children would improve if placed on diet free of artificial food addi tives If iavorings and colorings and salicylates which are present in some foods The idea appeals to many parents of hy perkinetic youngsters and many are staunch advocates Many form clubs devoted to the program outlined by Dr Feingold never was sold on this idea at the beginning and most of the doctors know are equally skeptical and unconvinced of any connection Newer studies in fact show no effect from the products or at worst minor one Much more needs to be known about the subject and more studies may be needed for any definitive answers There are some important side issues to consider with such diet The restrictions tend to eliminate favored source of childs vitamin apples tomatoes and oranges although grapefruit lemons and limes are allowed Another basic criticism applies to many other improved diet cures Parents who look for an answer to behavior problem in diet alone may be neglecting psy chological or other medical treatment that might help It is well to remember also that even the originator of the Fei ngold diet claims effectiveness in only 40 per cent of the young sters with the problems Dear Dr Ruble had my gall bladder removed recently find that my appetite is much larger than it used to be have heard that people get fat after this surgery Is this true TRY Yes it is true and you have guessed the reason It has no direct relationship to the ab sence of the gall bladder People like you have better ap petites because you can now eat foods you may not have before the surgery for fear youd have pain Dear Dr Ruble Can doctor feel your gall bladder with his fingers What usually causes gall bladder to enlarge Mrs TK The gall bladder lies beneath the liver and it can be felt palpated if it is enlarged Enlargement can mean several things chiefly stones or ob struction Xrays and newer ul trasound techniques provide excellent viewing of the gall bladder Dear Dr Ruble If woman is taking birth control pills and misses period should she discontinue them am thinking ahead since just started with the pills My problem is that my periods were always bit irregular in the past so how would know when should stop the pills Mrs TX Discontinue the pills if you have the slightest indication that you are pregnant That in cludes missing period which must always be taken as evi dence of pregnancy until shown otherwise Some women find that their periods get more regular with the birth control pills Dear Dr Ruble Is it really true that too much sunning causes premature aging of skin find it hard to believe RN Its true especially for women with fair complexions Dear Dr Ruble Can an ill ness cause woman to skip period LL Yes BRIDGE Oswald Jacoby and Alan Sontag Success absolves bidding 89 OAIOBSIZ OAKBSZ Vulnerable Both Dealer East West North East to 4v Pass 29 Dbl Pass Opening lead ByWOIWAId Jacoby and Alan Sontag South had good defense against four spades but felt that he also would have good play for five diamonds Furthermore EastWest might persevere to five spades Four spades would one diamond honor and two clubs the contract could be made Declarer played dia mond to his ace cashed the aceking of clubs and ruffed club in dummy He ruffed spade in his hand and another club in
