To alleviate traffic roblems Ora residents want flyovers By RICHARD THOMAS The Examiner delegation of residents wh live near the 1516 sideroad in Oro Township told Oro Council Tuesday they are concerned about the increase in traffic along that road as result of flyovers and central barrier on Highway 11 In an open letter to council read by Lloyd Fletcher SUNDAY WEDNESDAY spokesman for the delegation the residents said the amount of dust created by the additional traffic on the sideroad north of Highway 11 between Conces sions and 11 is safety health and an agricultural hazard The residents recommended the sideroad be paved with an asphalt surface and that ministry of transportation and communications at Concession Our understanding at the time the approval for the flyovers was Township to Barrie within one year said Rev LeHoy Pen nell pastor of the church today The church recently purchas ed 412 acres of institutional land in Barrie on the south side of Ardaugh Road near Essa Road As soon as we can sell our old facilities we will begin to build new facilities said Mr Pennell Present plans are to build one building 8000 to 12000 square feet on the new land Were going to build one building now that is step one said Mr Pen nell It will accommodate all the churches ministries Funds for the new building will be raised through the con gregation We hope to pay the land right off and build the new building right away said Mr Pennell Until the new building is con structed however Mr Pennell is searching for location to commence classes for the chur chs day school Heritage Chris tian Academy Mr Pennell has met with In nisfil Council to discuss renting the Alcona Community Centre Were still interested in the community centre he said If the cost are reasonable we will go in that direction In discussions with council he said the centre would be re quired from late August 1979 to late June 1980 and would nor mally be used Monday to Fri day only The centre he underway for ma jor improvement to the Highway 400 interchange at Bayfield St to eliminate traffic bottlenecks Doug McEwen project manager with the ministry of transportation and communica tions said Tuesday that the project involves moving the northerly signals on Bayfield further north and the addition of new ramps for 400 traffic southbound At present drivers heading south on the 400 must make lefthand turn off Bayfield This has created backups and in terfered with traffic using the twolane ramp off the 400 new loop will do away with left turns by providing direct right hand access to 400 Township next week to further in vestigate the need for senior citizens housing centre in the municipality Henry Neufeld township clerk said Tuesday that ministry officials would arrive in the township August 15 to begin sixweek survey of township residents especially senior citizens to determine if there is need for such cen tre Neufeld said the municipality wont know the results of the survey until October Officials will survey areas in the township which they feel would be suitable for such housing project and have specifieid that the location must be in an area where ser vices are available he said Oro Station Hawkestone and Shanty Bay would be likely locations because of this re quirement Neufled said Council agreed in June to ask for the survey after delega tion from the for Georgian Col lege but the road block may be temporary says president Wayne Busch Were exploring other ways of getting it off the ground Busch told The Examiner Tues day One way is to have company build it and we lease it through rent applied toward purchase arrangement Busch said the college already pays rent on building several blocks from the Duckworth St campus on Bell Farm Rd and another Alliston last week has been so successful its organizers will repeat the tests next week for an extra three days Sponsored by the ministry of culture and recreation the Fit Test was held from July 30 to August 13 14 and 15 said Joe Tiernay summer student helping with the project And if there is enough de mand it will be held on the 16th too he said The test is administered by four staff members of
