Major Bantms are the 1979 Ontario Baseball Association Champions Barrie defeated Sault Ste Marie 106 and 94 to sweep the bestofthree finals two games to none and bring the cham pionship to Barrie It is the first time that any minor baseball team from Barrie has ever won an Ontario title In the first game Barrie displayed one of the talents that has led them to such we cessful season remarkable comeback ability Sault Ste Marie took 62 lead after the top of the sixth in ning But Barrie scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to go ahead 96 Catcher Regan Harris led off with single and scored on Rick Orsas single Billy Joe Muise hit single and Darryl Lynn made first on an error while Orser scored Steven Col lins then got on base on an er ror Karem Kennedy hit dou ble the batters was Collins with three singles Roy and Orser hit two singles for Barrie COACHES PLEASED Coaches Bob Irwin Lloyd Preston and Tim Brown were all very pleased with the win All three coaches felt that the boys deserved the title by play ing good ball and also coming up big under pressure Preston believed that one fac tor in Barries success this season is that the team IS Bill Hake goalie John Duncan recorded the win but wasnt too successful in thwarting Olympic Restaurants Dan Perks on this particular play Perks scored to narrow Hakes lead to 2l despite remarkably well disciplined Nothing ever gets them down said Preston Not only did they show good discipline to rally when they were down against Port Colborne in the last game of the semifinals they did the same thing against Sault St Marie in the first game Their comeback ability is really something theyre just never out of it Everyone contributes Im proud of the class they showed and their good sport smanship said Brown
