stresses wanted programs By CATHY HEATHER Of The Examiner The work that Dave Garner and staff of five other pro gram directors do at Barries YMYWCA means pleasure to lot of people As far as Garner the pr gram and physical director is concerned the is place where people of all ages can come to blow off some steam by participating in leisure time activity When Garner and the other program staff got together to coordinate this years program at the this type of philosophy was taken in to consideration We try to stress the type of program people want says Garner In fact last year we had sort of hit and miss pro gram trying to determine what most people wanted One thing we decided was that we were spending too much time on the physical side there were some people who came here just to sit or socialize So weve hired social program direc tor Heather Fraser to plan some interest programs IIIREVWOMAN Another area the staff felt needed attention was the womens program Garner says there was void in the area of programs relating to women and girls so they hired Wendy Town to help fill that void While some Ys are of the nonmembership variety Bar ries is membership type YM YWCA While this might create problems because people ac cuse them of being private and not for the community Garner says that membership is ab solutely necessary The members have to come first says Garner The only way we can operate this place is if we know what kind of money we have to work with says Garner And the members give us that figure But being membership YM YWCA doesnt take away from serving the community all our members are people from the Barrie community Membership is not exclusive to those in healthy financial The YMYWCA booklet includes section en titled nsored members under which it is stated that no rson shall be refused mem rship in the Barrie YM YWCA because of inability to meet the membership fee Garner says the triesto en courage the family together ness by having family swims and family gym and swim times Programming is set up on basis of space availability group size determined by what is the best and most feasible working sized group to be with PROGRAMS DIVIDED Programs are divided under age headings under ei outh teens and adults ile amer says that it is hard to tell which group makes up the largest per cent of par ticipating goers he feels that the under eight
