Examiner Satire directed at society thats already succumbed to craziness is usually doomed from the start how can you poke fun at the US when the reality of everyday life is non stop carnival of comedy black or otherwise Thats the pro blem faced by Americathon new comedy that opened Fri day at the Imperial The film tries hard to present vision of the US based on preentday trends The year is 1998 The bankrupt and fuelless country is forced to hold 30 day telethon to raise the $400 billion needed to save America from falling into the hands of the United Hebrab Republic confederation of oilrich Arabs and Jews Th host of the telethon is an ageing actor named Monty Rushmore Harvey Korman star of TV show called Both Mother and Father in which he plays transvestite parent The president of the US is Chet Roosevelt tJohn Ritter jargonspouting graduate of EST who bears more than slight resemblence to Califor nia governor Jerry Brovm TOO LIMP Amerieathon is too limp to carry off its own
