they are today But given the accomplishments of the affable band of lrishmen one suspects that they might well have had charm or two close Iiy Since 196 the hiettains have been cutting records of tradi tional Gaelic folk music on equally traditional instruments penny whistle harp bodhran fiddles flute and uilleann pipes The product always well received iii regional circles gradually won appeal in other areas and today the hieftains are in demand in many of the cultural centres of the world Yet it wasnt until four years ago that the group turned fully professional Previously music was only partvtime occupa tion for the Chieftains sup plemeiiting their incomes as post office workers and other ciin servants In 1975 the year piper laddy Moloney says the hand really took off the liieltains
