physical education program at Innisdale Secondary School in its first year of operation is emphasizing recrea tional leisuretime activities such as sailing crosscountry ski ing outdoor education and swimming The sailing program under the directorship of Jack Pearce is now in full tilt with three sets of five students at sailing and training out of Barrie Marina every day All the kids who are taking the course approximately 20 are novices to sailing Pearce mathematics teacher at In nisdale told The Examiner Im sticking to purely practical course want them to enjoy sailing and get to like it Pearce said he will teach his students theory in the spring when they start attending regattas Pearce said as far as he knows it is the only course of its kind in any of Ontariorhigh schools is the only course in sail ing offered at any high school in Ontario The students who are all in grades nine and 10 are also com peting in series of races against one another Pearce said he is looking for sponsor for trophies to go to the winners of the rac ing series Interested parties may reach him at Innisdale Pearce said he is hoping to take his students to several regat tas in the spring trip
