Barrie general committee to install playground equipment at Shoreview Park drew some heated discussion Monday Three separate individuals each representing small parent groups offered different Views of the committees proposal representative from the Johnson Street Interested Parents Association wanted the money used for equipment to be set up at the Johnson Street School The representative said children would have to cross Alliston native guest soloist at Pops concert ALLISTON On Oct 28 there will be an event in Alliston On that night in Ban ting Memorial High School Cafeteria the Huronia Sym phony will present Pops Con cert This is first for Alliston indce ltIhe orchestra has never te opportunity to la here before In addition to the symphony Paul Shilton will appear as the guest soloist Shilton comes from wellknown Alliston family He is the son of Rev and Mrs James Shilton He grew up in Alliston and attend ed the Alliston Public School and Banting Memorial High School He became interested in music while he was student of Mr Vowden After graduating from High School Paul attended Queens Univer sity He graduated with degree in Music in 1976 While he was student Shilton had varied musical life He sang in modern and Elizabethian choirs played in classical and jazz groups and composed music for the trumpet and for jazz ensemble After university he spent year as musician with Theatre Five professional company based in Kingston He composed and arranged music for their productions and played variety of instruments while accompanying them Shilton is now playing piano and trumpet for Turn at the Groning Board in Toronto His main interest is in composition and arrangement Besides seeing and hearing Shilton there will be delightful program of light music at the school Barrie Jaycees receive $3500 from city for Christmas parde The annual Santa Claus parade in Barrie will again receive financial support from Barrie city council if it en dorses general committee decision reached Monday The Barrie Jaycees who have been sponsoring the event since 1964 will get $3500 from Barrie to hold the event The move followed deputa tion by Greg Henn chairman of the Santa Claus Parade Com mittee The grant indicates Barries support for the project Ald Ross Stephens told council Wed be sick looking city if we didnt have Santa Claus parade of some type he said
