him The childrens section of Bar rie Public Library has been going concern since Molly Brown childrens came to the library in 1951 She set up the Saturday morning story hour preschoolers in 1951 In l971 Miss Brown decided to librarian televise the story hour as Time For Old Magic aired on able it Television In 1977 Time for Old Magic was replaced by Ardvark Soup The biggest change at the childrens library occurred when the section was physically moved from the main library building to fomier garage and sports store at 56 Mulcaster Sf Barrie We moved in here in December 1975 and it was Kempenfest on the civic holir day weekend in August As part of Winter Carnival the art club in cooperation with tde Kiwanas Club holds an arts and crafts festival The art club has 88 members who meet every third Wednes day at the Barrie Public Library hosting various artists as guest speakers Members in clude professional artists and other people willing to support the arts in Barrie In July 1978 the club acquired space at the Downtown tentre allowing them to set up per manent collect ion Some valuable paintings in the art clubs collection are an etching by lloriiiansky and demonstration painting by ZISSOIL later member of the iroupof Seven tlub expenses are paid by the membership fee of $10 per per son and Si per family Senior citizens pay only $5 per year There is monthly art rental on the first Saturday of every month The renter pays two per cent of the cost of painting He may keep it for three monr ths then he either decides to buy the painting or gives it back to the art club various art programs for children from ages to 18 Ap plications are taken on first comefirstserve basis and the response has been overwhelm ing since the program started in 1977 says Mrs Worth For the past two years three high school or college students were hired on Young Canada Works grant to teach the Michelle Valley ll studies at Barrie Public younger children who are in structed in theatre arts make up dance mime body language and material arts pottery and weaving The childrens annex also owns television camera used in the cinematography section of the creative arts program Assisting
