Filion edges Waples in driver duel By GARRY FORBES Of The Examiner Herve Filion North American dash champion for 10 of the past 11 years showed up in the money in eight of 10 races to edge Canadian champion harness racing driver Ron Waples in Wednesdays Battle of the Best at Barrie Raceway Prior to the competition both drivers pledged the winner takeall prize of $1000 to the Easter Seal campaign The drivers were awarded Jody Evans one point for each other entry they beat in each race and drew their horses from the list of entries last week Filion finished in the top four in all 10 races winning two and taking four seconds three thirds and two fourths Waples won three times came second three times and scored one fourth two fifths and sixth 39yearold native of Angers Que Filion League season 21 After four winlcss starts the Blizzard produced its finest display of soccer in defeating the Tampa Bay Rowdies Peter Lorimer aka Thunderfoot and erstwhile British soccer star finally
