to six recipients Wednesday and one of them said he would give part of the $5000 prize to an organization working for the defence of the political prisoners of Quebec Gilbert Langevin winner of the French poetry award read onepage statement at the ceremony in Government House which otherwise was drably formal Langevin accepted the spe ciallybound copy of his book of poems Mon Refuge est un Vol can and said that while he had been described in secret docu ment as subversive but not dangerous artist he thanked the GovernorGeneral with all the respect which owe to those of right He stood chatting amiably with Schreyer for sev eral minutes after the cere mony Before the awards were pre sented Timothy Porteous dep uty director of the Canada Council said Schreyer should not be personally held respon sible for the selection of prize winners The awards are ad ministered by the council who choose the judges Other winners who received their speciallyltbound books and cheques for $5000
