Barrie Canoe Club plans Residents of Letitia Heights interested in canoeing are invited to attend meetings of the Barrie Canoe Club The invitation comes from Liz Hobbs Publicity Director of the club Visitors to Camp Tyndale that camp recently purchased by the City near Minets Point know that is where the Canoe Club built their headquarters as during the sum mer the water was spotted with youngsters and canoes We teach canoeing and water safety at the camp This year we expect bigger turn out of young sters she explains They help the novice learn the rudiments of canoeing and when they have enough confidence the club takes them on day and weekend trips Last year we had weekend trip to Algonquin Park day trip to the Muskoka River and many day trips on the Nottawasaga River because it is so close she reports We also had weekend trip on the Severn System Although the club instructs child ren in the 10 year old range We have younger children but we prefer that they be accompanied by Annual Meeting of the Bureau held at the Library recent ly Ms Neale outlined the history of the Bureau and their hopes for thefuture ln year one the Bureau offered variety of serwces Among them helping physrcally and mentally Andrew Gilfillan new resident at Letitia Heights gets ready to polish his new International sure sign of spring Andrew bought his pride and joy just few weeks ago handicapped children and adults taking books from the Library to shutins being Big Brother Or Sister being Hospital volunteer helping in day care centres being volunteer driver and being friend to thosr in need as part of the Bureaus Befriending Service Through Canada Works grant the Barrie v1 working With the Bureau held successful Volunt eer Week including workshop for present and The club gained 25 members at their annual meeting last year and hope to boost membership to over 60 this year We offer instruction and try to have five or six trips year If the members want more trips we can arrange it The cost of joining the club is reasonable$20 year for family membership and there are pro grams for the more advanced canoeist My husband is the Marathon Director which is long distance racing It takes lot of training and is something for the more advanc ed canoeist We also have white water trips for the more adventur ous and experienced members she reports But we are response from the city We find that potential volun teers should be prepared to donate minimum of three hours week to really help the agencies If they wish to work more h0urs thats even better This year the Volunteer Service Bureau hopes to ally itself With an agency to streamline their opera tion and pare costs Even then because of the volunteer nature of their work they expect to operate within thousand dollar budget in 1979 They are looking hopefully at the Library and the Department of Parks and Recreation because as Ms Neale says volunteer work is form of positive recreation Its rewarding because there are so many people who want to tolunteer The people of Barrie do care about their neighbours and those needing help sums up Ms Neale Tshirt explosion Visitors to Letitia Heights soon Will have no trouble identifying residents Theres Tshirt explos ion under way to boost the community says the Letitia Heights Community Association Letitia Heights Development Ltd in meetings with the previous Executive of the Association last year discussed the possibility of providing Letitia Heights Tshirts to residents at cost As result of those discussions the community now has 1000 Tshirts in range of sizes at half the normal retail price The shirts are white with the in community Letitia Heights symbol in green on the front Available in Small Medium and Large for adults and size to 6X for children they are being offered to residents until the end of April for $150 each Residents who want to pick up real bargain in Tshirts and boost their community at the same time can pick them up at the information Pavilion at Austen and Leacock Lane Readers outside of the community can also purchase the Tshirts if they wish after the end of April at the Pavilion
