would mean reducing the current acceptable level of phosphorous entering the lake from 103 tons per year to about 75 tons per year Salbach said this would cost the taxpayers in the Simcoe basin about $48 million year or $150 home in addition to what they pay now These figures are based on current population of 186000 he said As the population increased so would the phosphorous enter ing the lake lid the cost would be even greater Salbach said He said to reach this level of improvement would mean str ingent cotrols on the amounts of phosphorous coming from sewage treatment plants and additional efforts to reduce other sources of the nutrient such as urban storm drainage and runoff from agricultural land Salbach said the technology on urban drainage control was still not well understood and wedont know how to attack the agricultural side of it He said the report committee had faced the difficult question as to how realistic it is to go for improving conditions We have come to the c0nclu sion the best we can hope for at this time is to go for the main tainingoption Salbach said based on populzr tion projection figures of 300000 maintaining the accep Chairman says replace
