supporters who did show up for the last lap of the annual Winter Carnival Despite 21 degree temperatures reSIdents and VISitors from points farther afield roamed the ice on Kempenfelt Bay Saturday with intermittent stops for hotdogs taffy ap ples cups of coffee and brief warmperiods near one of the many open fires Bundled up to the ears adults and children alike enjoyed the traditional horsedrawn sleigh rides yelled encourage ment to players in the broomball tournament or watched eagerly as several riders raced their motorcycles around an Barrie Winter Carnival They came from all over lt is certainly very exciting he added Billed as The Greatest Show on Snow the citys 23rd an nual winter carnival attracted visitors from as far away as Pennsylvania started coming for the Winter Plow ing Match and Farm Machinery Show will be staged in Simcoc County and prepara tioris are already underway delegation of members from the local committee for The international Plowing Match will meet tomorrow with directors of the Ontario Plowmcns Association in Toronto to discuss the ar rangements said George Toulson committee publicity chairman Headed by rvillc Hughes committee chairman the delegation is one of several making presentation outlinv ing preparations for the mat ches as far ahead as 1983 foulson said We have to fit into the schedule and let the association directors know where we are in our planning he said Coulson said he expected the plowing match would be held towards the end of September but we dont have firm date as yet Although the local committee will deal primarily with the plowing match it must also plan for the farm machinery show which is part of the whole event hesaid Toulson said the show is one of the tar est of its kind in Canada rawing exhibitors from across the country and the United States The local committee must make sure the l98 show does not clash with similar events elsewhere he said site of about 150 acres located on the farm of Gordon Atkinson in Crown Hill just north of Barrie has been selected for the Tent City which will house the farm machinery display Coulson said Lines of communication for the show are being
