beauty on my mind was glad that live in the country where could View the vast expanse of sky and bay seen through the black filigree of pine trees in the moonlight Most nights have an early morning wideawake time for me thoroughly enjoy them partly because can be alone with my thoughts partly because Georgian Bay can be breathtakingly beautiful on moonlight night So often there is beauty in the night There is beauty in the night time places of our lives those places we label sorrow trouble and heartache We will find that beauty if we will take the time to search for it Trouble can lead to the bean ty of talking to God about our problems Perhaps if we had not the problem we would not hay talked to God Thus we would have missed the beauty of His answer Trouble can lead to the beau ty of sympathy person who has lived through difficult situation can more readily offer sympathy to similar sufferer than one who has not Sym pathy is healing thing to the one who gives and the one who receives Trouble can drive us to the beauty of the Word of God caus ing us to search for the answer the guidance from God And if we are sincere we will find it Trouble can lead us to the beauty of finding Jesus hrist as our personal Friend to find Ilini to be the answer to our problems Let us seek to be like the Psalmist of old who said Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee in whose heart are the ways of them who passing through the valley of Hata troublei make it well Isalm 84136 Religion roundup Church offers history course OTTAWA Il The Roman atholic church in Ottawa is Church After an uncomfortable swing toward an updated litany many Catholics are discovering that new form of worship is not half so enliven ing as fresh excitement among the worshippers The excitement now sweeping over parishes throughout the United States is not the result of papal encyclical but started with the laity And while some church fathers are looking askance there is indeed excite merit Says Father Ralph DiOrio of St Johns parish in Worcester Massachusetts and one of the leading figures in the mushrooming Catholic charismatic movement Ive seen cancer healed Ive seen people get up from wheelchairs and walk And Ive seen the blind receive their sight again All as result of praying and laying on hands as the Bible instructs Interestingly the Roman Catholic church has more tradi tions and extraBiblical beliefs than any other Christian denomination yet it remains one of the greatest critics of modern miracles Because of this duality DiOrios ministry which he describes as one of compassion rather than heal ing has some church fathers looking askance He talked about the rough spots and the miracles with Iat Robertson host of The 700 Club interna tional telecast DiOrio formerly priest in Chicago church dubbed AI Capones parish said had been priest for 21 years and used every trick in the book to bring the people to the Lord We gave food to the poor and clothing Sometimes gave clothes right off my own back always visited the people in ghettoes They were happy to get the things we gave and pro mised over and over to come to mass But on Sunday no one showed he smiled One especially discouraging Sunday four Christmases ago Iirio learned simple secret that changes his life and the lives of thousands of people around him At this Christmas mass on ly 26 people showed up after all those years of service and hard work Walking down the aisle said inside Lord give Arena is still Holy Trinity ULVERSTON England It Holy Trinity one of two stately Anglican churches had doubled and in month we were up to 200 The church basement we met in bulged at the seams Soon was transferred out because the church thought was too popular IiOrio chuckles at theirony That was just the beginning Soon he would appear on the pages of People magazine as leader in the charismatic movement that is now breathing new life into the Catholic church The move ment has gone far beyond physical healings and has become revolution in the lai ty The charismatic movement is the fastest growing move ment in the atholic church because people have been pray ingasdid PopeJohn XXIIIfor new salvation Traditionalists and skeptics sometimes forget that God is active and has purpose for what He does DiOrio believes that many people need to be healed from inner problems that result in physical or emotional illnesses He likes to focus on this area When was working on my degree in psychotherpay developed tests for juvenile delin uents in prison They revea ed areas of inner hurt that result in neuroses phychoses personality distur bances psychosomatic il lnesses and troubled relation ships Many times person needs to find forgiveness or have this wounded inner man healed before outward healing takes place Jesus gave this ex ample of loving and healing and demonstrated the power of God to heal miraculously Regardless of the doubt and concern among some in the Catholic hierarchy the laity have embraced the charismatic movement and its resultant sense of community which they insist is more important than even the miracles Some in the hierarchy have respoan ed and I7
