of Barrie will try wheelchair obstacle course at the Hayfield Mall Friday even ing Mayor Parker will be first out at 530 pm and the other two candidates will follow The course has been set up by the Ontario March of Dimes to let the public know what life is like in wheelchair It will be open from 530 to pm The March of Dimes is part of the United Appeal campaign now underway The obstat le course want to put in is not park but road said Ald Perri Ald Perri said the estimated cost of the road is between $60000 and $100000 It will delay he said any develop ment of park in the area PLAN AMENDMENT He said the decision was made without considering either the steep grade at Mulcaster Street or the provin cially approved amendment 14 to the citys official plan The amendment provides for parkway road to service the parkland in the area but he said road is not needed to ser vice about fivc acres of land The distance between Mul caster and Bayfield streets he said is only about 400 feet which thelandtillsitefor road The road is needed he said to continue developing the park TWO tried in county court in beating of Orillia man Stan Dubowik said in County Court Monday he was beaten by two men and then left on roadside last Dec The 57yearold rillia man identified his assailants as Keith Goerke and Ron Bielec both of rillia The two are ap pcaring before Judge Couture in jury trial They have pleaded not guilty to assault causing bodily harm Mr Dubowik said he left the liquor store in rillia about when the men beckoned im to their car He said one of the men asked where they could get something to drink and he said he would show them He got in the car and noted there were two women with the men He said they drove to frieiidss house but there was nobody home He asked the men to drive him home but in stead they started driving out of town He said someone passed around wine bottle and just after he had drink one of the women hit him Mr Dubowik said he tried to pretend he was asleep and he finally fell asleep He said he was wakened when somebody dragged him out of the car He said the men hit him some more and maybe kicked him They left him lying in ditch with no shoes on CALLED POLICE He lay still while then walked to house nearby and calledthcpolicc Darlene Bylow aslo of rillia was one of the women in the car She told the jury roughly the same story of Mr Dubowik being picked up but said Bielec had been the only one to hit him Miss Bylow said that after they stopped the car near Brechin Bielec had hit Mr Dubowik in the throat Keith Georkei told Ron BCIICCI to leave him alone and for Stans sake they carried him out of the car and laid him in the ditch said Miss Bylow After he was in the ditch saw Ron kick Stan two or three times didnt see him move after that and was watching as wedrove off She said that Goerkc checked Dubowiks pulse while he was in the ditch to see if he was alive When they left they drove back to rillia to get some money then drove to Toronto She said that on the way someone found one of Duhrowiks shoes and threw it out the window The trial continues today AMEN WORK bylaw for an agreement between the city and Ben torswell
