New Coldwater pastor impressed wit By SHIRLEY JENNETT COLDWATER Ones first impression of Rev John Allsop might well be he cant be minister he looks so young Young he is but at 28 years of age John has already com pleted year in the ministry in rural Saskatchewan and has been to England for year on scholarship to the University of Nottingham to study the de velopment of miracles in the Bible His easy going manner and warm personality generate ins tant friendships and you like him even better when you learn hes worked with youth groups since he was youth himself teaching Sunday School Bible classes Young Peoples groups Bible study prayer goups for teenagers and vaca tion Bible school He has also acted as camp director recreation director for two summers in Prince Albert Na tional Park in Waskesiu Saskatchewan acted as counsellor at Drop In Centres and spent summer in Lorlie Sask living and working with adults and youth alike on the File Hills Indian Reserve TORONTO NATIVE native of Toronto John ob tained his bachelor of arts degree in psychology and sociology at York University and then went on to Emmanuel College to study for his Master of Divinity The following year he studied at the Vancouver School of Theology University of BC and then returned to Toronto to complete his mas ters degree At university Mr Allsop met his future wife Karen also native of Toronto and who was also studying for bachelor degree in Psychology She later earned masters degree in social work They were mar ried June 1974 the same month John was ordained While John was attending Nottingham University and Karen was doing social work in England they learned that the Coldwater Waubaushene Eady Parish was in need of United Church Minister due to the fact that the Rev and Mrs Pickering were leaving for the mission fields ofJamaica John applied for the position was hired and the next stop was Col dwater They are currently living in house in the Greenwood Acres Subdivision while they await completion of the new manse located on Craddock Street INDUCTION SERVICE An induction ceremony was held in Coldwater United tts Church Sept 27 Presiding officer was Rev Keith Wettlauffer of Stayner Nottawa chairmanelect of Simcoe Presbytry He was assisted by Rev Harold Kemp of Minesing pastoral charge and Rev George Davidson of Guthrie and Hawkestone charge Mr Allsop was es corted to the front by Lloyd Sommerville Following the induction members of the congregation enjoyed social time and lunch in the Sunday School au ditorium Mrs Allsop was presented with lovely bouquet of flowers by fiveyear old Lisa Gratrix of Rosemount Mr Allsops parents Mr and Mrs James All 0p of ampbellville were present for the ceremony How do they feel about Col dwater They both maintain they feel very much at home here find the people very friendly and are truly enjoying villagelife There has been some talk about further sharing of infor mation and techniques with people at different festivals Maybe
