the Barrie OptimistClub Barrie never had dance that was inexpensive and free of trouble he says Now all that has changed The Optimists working with the Barrie Police Department have set up series of dances to fill the gap in the citys selec tion of entertainment Inexpesnive Admission costs single dollar Troublefree Those two uniformed policemen are no mere ornaments Were going to ensure that anyone just cant come in and raise heck romiscs Police Chief Earl Snit er The program is called the Barrie Teen Disco Club and it involves 12 scheduch dances spread across the school year The first was held Friday at Cundles Heights Public School the second is set for Oct 22 at Assickinack Public School on Little Avenue It originted over lunch one time recalls Mr Millett was telling somebody that Bar rie needed dance They said Why dont you do it So back he went to the 0p timists with the project The club alread sponsors respect for law wee and decided that the two themes would fit together nicely if the police would serve as cosponsors The police jumped at the chance The club and the department have been working on the pro ject since the beginning of the summer arranging for sound systems getting the use of school auditoriums for dances publicizing the program through the schools and the media The Simcoe County Board of Education made Cundles Heights and Assikinack available Lorvic Audio Systems of Barrie is lending almost $8000 worth of sound equipment for each dance CKBB disc jockey Jeff Walther was lined up to serve as the first master of ceremonies Several hundred youn sters turned out to the first ance and organizers expect that number to skyrocket with time would say after few dances well have close to 1000 members with cards says Mr Millett Were
