drive to finance another trip to Europe to participate in an international hockey tournatnent The rillia crew with five former Barrie players made trip to Holland last spring one of dozen or so teams from Canada among 40 which took part in tournament They swamped the Raak team frotn Holland to the tune of 15 to defeated Newfoundland to tied Nova Scotia 281 and lost to to St Catharines and to to Peterborough But the veteran hockeyists enjoyed their vacation at The Hague and Amsterdam and coach Blake Uren re rts they are looking forward to the next trip which is to be in witaerland in IIlIdMilltll Indications point to at least as many teams participating again possibly tnore Walter Varty is again manager of Orillia Oldtimers and other executives include Ed Steacy Derlyn Valley and Terry Gordon with Merv McDonald trainer Three players who were with Barries Memorial cup junior finalists of 18 years ago back in 194748 are members of the Orillia squad Ider Barrie hockey fans may remember when Whit Mousseau was smoothskating centre with that memorable Barrie team Goerge Ford was wing sharpshooter and Iiill Barrett sturdy defence stalwart Whit and Bill are both 18 now and George is 46 but all three have started preliminary training to get in shape for hockey again Ford was one of the teams scoring aces at Holland last spring Another fortner Barrie hockey player Billy Burtch who is in his early 40s was the top pointgetter for Orillia in the Holland games Max Richardson now 50 who made the flight to Holland last spring is also expected to play again Max too is wellknown to older Barrie fans having played with local teams in the past Teammates of the 191748 players with Barrie included such onetime well known local hockey stars as Bruno Red Favero Pual Meger Gilly St Pierre Rusty Aitkin Stan Long and goalers Gil Mayer and Jack Strachan Coach Uren reports his charges will be holding their first ice drill in preparation for the coming season at Twin Lakes arena in Orillia next weekend They hope to arrange some exhibition games with other Oldtimers to get into playing shape for the tournament BRADFORD SOFTBALL FANS EXCITED Softball fans at Bradford are still excited by the Queens Hotel cleansweep victory over Beatrice Foods in the Barrie and District senior softball finals In fact it is currently leading topic of conversation at popular sport gossip
